What is the SoLoR – CVD Registry?
The SoLoR-CVD Registry is a research database that has been created using information gathered during the routine delivery of healthcare at two London hospitals – King’s College Hospital (KCH) and Guy’s & St Thomas’ (GStT.) These hospitals serve a large and diverse population across central and south London and the wider south-east of England.
The SoLoR-CVD Registry will include approximately 150,000 individual patients who have been treated for a cardiovascular issue (e.g., heart attack, abnormal heart rhythm, valve disease or heart failure) at either hospital, between April 2012 and March 2022. This will make it one of the largest available contemporary datasets, and an invaluable resource for researchers.
We use data collected in your medical records to assess the impact of cardiovascular diseases on our community
Who is included in the registry?
People treated for Cardiovascular diseases (CVD, i.e., heart failure, coronary artery disease, valve disease, abnormal heart rhythm) at King’s College Hospital & Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital between 2012-2022
How will the project work?
When you come to hospital, we collect information to guide your treatment – this information is stored in your health record
We are analysing that information to improve our understanding of cardiovascular disease
Our records will be linked to national data-sources in order to understand what happens to our patients after their hospital attendance
Information that can identify you will be removed from the Registry & your data will be stored and protected within secure NHS IT networks
We may share data with external expert researchers – this data will always be the minimal required, and will NEVER contain identifiable information
What about consent?
The registry will include ~150,000 individuals treated over 10 years
After discussion with patient & public representatives, it was agreed that it would not be possible to seek consent from each person individually
We sought approval from a committee of experts & members of the public (an ‘NHS Confidential Advisory Group’)
This committee grants permission to use your data, solely for the purposes of research, under Section 251 of the NHS Act 2006
Can I be removed from the registry?
Yes – contact our team on kch-tr.ResearchNurses@nhs.net or 0203 299 1285 if you wish to be excluded from the registry or if you require further information
The National Data Opt-out scheme allows patients to request for their data to be removed from all research projects – these patients will be removed from the SoLoR-CVD database
